Ready-made list
Randomize D&D character traits
Improvised NPCs feel flat when they only get a name and a job. A few random traits give roleplay hooks without opening a 40-page generator.
Pick three traits for a quick NPC, or shuffle the whole bank when you need inspiration for session prep.

Using picks at the table
Before a scene, pick three traits and assign them to the NPC in your notes. Players notice consistency more than originality.
For player characters, let each player pick once from the list at session zero instead of rolling secretly—agency still matters.
Weighting iconic quirks
If you love map-obsessed characters, write “Obsessed with maps|3” and enable Weighted pick so that hook appears more often without deleting the rest of the bank.
How to use this list
- 1
Set pick count
Three traits is a sweet spot for memorable NPCs.

Run Pick, then attach a name and goal in your GM notes.
- 3
Reuse the bank
Keep the session pool off if repeats across different NPCs are fine.
Tips for this scenario
- Contradictory traits (soft-hearted + remembers debts) make richer villains.
- Shuffle the list when brainstorming a whole faction’s culture.
- Export the pick to your campaign doc with Download.
