Shuffle a fair seating order
Hosts often want mixed conversation without picking favorites. A visible shuffle gives place-card order or “fill seats left to right” without arguing.
Paste everyone at the table, run Shuffle once, and seat people in that numbered order (place 1 = first name). For several small tables, switch the tool to Groups after loading.

Linear seats vs table clusters
Use Shuffle when seats are in one row or around one table in numbered order. Use Groups (team generator) when you have several tables of four or six.
Couples who must sit together: shuffle, then swap two adjacent slots by hand. The tool does not enforce relationship rules.
Classroom seating
For weekly desk rotation, paste the roster, shuffle, and assign desk numbers 1–N in that order. Keep a seed if you need to reproduce the same layout later.
Cold-calling is a different job—use the classroom cold-call list when you need random speakers, not seats.

Frequently asked questions
Can I keep two people apart?
Not automatically. After shuffle, swap lines so those names are not adjacent or not at the same table.
Is this for wedding seating charts?
It can draft a fair order or table groups. Complex VIP constraints still need a human pass afterward.
Does refresh keep the seating?
Only if you enable Remember list on this page, or copy the result before leaving.
